How to download an Instagram Story
Enter the username.
Use the public account’s Instagram username, with or without the @ symbol.
Choose an available Story.
Preview the photo or video to check that it is the one you want.
Select Download.
Your browser handles saving the file. Where it is saved depends on your device and browser settings.
What you can download
iStoryTracker can download available Story photos and videos from public Instagram accounts. It retrieves content through a third-party provider, so availability can change between your search and download.
The downloader does not open private accounts or recover Stories that have already expired. A search with no available results does not prove that an account has never posted a Story.
Saving Stories on your phone
Preview the item first, then select its Download button. Saving is handled by your browser, so the prompt and destination can differ across browser versions and device settings. The following steps describe where to look; they do not guarantee that every device will save in the same way.
On iPhone or iPad
If Safari offers a download prompt, confirm it and check Safari’s downloads list. You can also look in the Downloads location in the Files app; the configured location may be iCloud Drive or On My iPhone.
If the media opens in a tab instead, look for an available Share or save action. Saving a file does not automatically add it to Photos. Whether a Save Image or Save Video action is offered depends on the browser and media format.
On Android
If Chrome or your browser offers a download prompt, confirm the file download. Open the browser’s Downloads list or your device’s file manager to locate it.
A file can be saved without appearing immediately in your gallery app. If you only see the media in a tab, check the browser or player’s available download options. In-app browsers may offer different options; try opening the page in your usual browser.
Photo and video files
Each Download button saves the selected Story media item. This page does not convert a Story to MP3, combine multiple Stories into one video, or promise 4K resolution. The available file and quality depend on the source.
Keep the file extension supplied by the browser. If a downloaded file will not open, check that the download completed and try a player that supports its format. Renaming a file extension does not convert it.
Download only content you have a right to save or use. Saving a public Story does not transfer ownership or give permission to republish it.
Why a download may not work
Check whether the Story preview still opens before starting another search. A download prompt that was dismissed, a blocked browser download or insufficient device storage can prevent saving even when the media remains available. Review the browser’s downloads list for a failed or pending file.
If both preview and download fail, the Story may no longer be available, its temporary media link may have expired, or the content provider may be unavailable. Search again only when you need fresh results; a new search uses your search allowance.
If you have reached a search limit, repeated requests will not bypass it. Follow the access options shown by the tool. A usage-limit message is not evidence that the Story has expired.
Download now or track future Stories?
Downloading saves a Story that is available now. Story tracking checks one public account hourly and archives newly discovered Stories while paid access is active. Optional email alerts apply to newly discovered Stories after the initial check.
Tracking cannot recover Stories that expired before tracking began, and checks do not guarantee that every Story will be captured.
Questions about Story downloads
Do I need to sign in to Instagram?
No. You do not need to connect your Instagram account or provide your Instagram password. Free search limits apply; paid access uses an iStoryTracker account.
Can I download videos as well as photos?
Yes, when the public Story’s photo or video is available through the content provider. Preview the item and use its Download button.
Can I download a Story from a private account?
No. This tool supports public accounts only.
Can I recover an expired Story?
No. This downloader cannot recover Stories that are no longer available. If you previously enabled tracking, your tracked archive may contain Stories captured while tracking was active.
Where is the downloaded file?
Check your browser’s downloads list or the location selected in your device’s download settings. The website cannot choose your device’s save location or confirm that a file was added to your photo library.
Does downloading a returned Story run another search?
Selecting Download uses the media link for that result; it does not start another username search. Running a new search to refresh unavailable results uses your search allowance.
Can I use this page for Reels, Highlights or private Stories?
This page finds currently available Stories from public accounts. It is not a Reels or Highlights downloader and cannot open private Stories.
